Archos is one, 1988 of Henri Crohas created, French company, the periphery for the computer manufactures.

To their products belong among other things external non removable disks and portable music and Multimediaplayer. Particularly by their Harddisk-MP3-Player the company made itself a name in the last years. These often offered more functions (e.g. direct MP3-Encoding, digital in/exits, open firmware) and at the same time a favourable price than competition products as for example Apple iPod, were not so thought out for it in the Design.

The current generations of Archos' MP3-Playern are called AV and Gmini. First are relatively large and expensive, with a strong adjustment on the photograph and - rendition. The devices of the Gmini series are usually smaller and more favorable. They are primarily meant for playing (and partly also for taking up) from music.

The first AVs carried the name "Jukebox AV120" or "Jukebox AV140", depending upon that whether they have 20GB or 40GB storage volume. A AV200 row did not give it, to Archos went equivalent over to the AV300er row. The AV300 has completely different appearance than all other earlier Archos Player. It has a substantially larger display and convinced also by user friendly arranged user surface. The AV300 gives it with 20GB, 40GB and 80GB to capacity.

At the beginning of of 2004 followed then the "AV400 video recorder" in two of the versions is offered: AV420 (20GB) and AV4100 (100GB). Before the AV4100 was offered preceded it the AV480 (80GB). To center 2005 the Baureien AV700 and AV500 followed.

Tablet PC/Multimedia Player PMA430

At first sight between AV300 and AV400 did not much, but starting from 26 February 2005 Archos' of first Tablet PC on the market, i.e. PDA similar equipment with Touchscreen, which has however additionally a non removable disk, come. the so-called "PMA430" (= pocket Media Assistant with 30 gigabyte storage volume). The operating system of the PMA430 is this time not developed from Archos themselves. The equipment is Linux based. it uses the so-called "Qtopia" user surface.

A special feature of the PMA430 is its Wifi (Wireless fidelity) binding. It made possible to konnektieren itself over a Wireless ACCESS POINT with the Internet. Since Linux is an open SOURCE project, it will again and again give new programs for the PMA430. As is the case for the Gmini 400 of Archos it will give for the PMA430 also to play, which is based on the "Mophun" Game engine, possibly even 3D-Spiele.Seit October 2005 gives it a successor for the Gmini to 400 nl. the Gmini 402 price: 299.99 euro UVP
