The Alexander Schleicher GmbH & CO is a prominent German glider manufacturer with head office in Poppenhausen (water crest) in the The enterprise counts today about 115 coworkers and it approx. 90 - 100 gliders in the year is manufactured. 65% of the airplanes are exported abroad.
Important types of aircraft of this manufacturer were among other things Ka 6, K 7, K 8, ASK 13, ASK 21, ASW 12, ASW 15, ASW 19, ASW 22, ASW 24, ASH 25, ASW 27 and ASW 28. The newest development is the ASG 29. Many of these airplanes were milestones of the glider development and for record flights were used, then for example Hans Werner large one with the ASW 12 flew a new distance world record for gliders on 25 April 1972 from Luebeck to Biarritz to France at 1.460 km.
The names of the airplanes are always assigned in accordance with the same sample: AS for "Alexander Schleicher", followed of the initial letter of the name of the airplane technical designer.
Thus for example the ASK models of Rudolf became emperor, who develops ASW models of Gerhard Waibel and the ASH models of Martin heath. For the new ASG models Michael Greiner has responsibility itself.
