The aid is a financial support to the costs, which receive officials, developing in disease, birth, maintaining and deaths, judges, career soldiers and soldiers on time from their service gentleman for itself and their not relatives liable to social security under departure from self-portions. It is granted proportionally and/or overall.

For active officials half of the costs (with children, spouses and pensioners more) is taken over. The official must usually cover the remaining part of the disease costs by a private ill and nursing care insurance. In some Lands of the Federal Republic instead of the aid free welfare welfare service is granted to some groups of officials, these applies likewise to the soldiers of the German Federal Armed Forces.

The achievements of the aid are not appropriate over those for the legal health insurance. Similarly to the practice fee raised with legally insured one also with aid receivers 40 euro are annually taken off from the reimbursable expenditures (, even if the physician were visited only in one quarter!) and the refunding for medicaments around 10% reduced. Expenditures for use up-requiring medicaments, for the one fixed amount in accordance with "§"§ 35 f. SGB V determined is, also only up to the height of this fixed amount is refunded.

In some Lands of the Federal Republic a first cost portion of the officials must be furnished, here often differs federation from national officials. This first cost portion calls itself in North Rhine-Westphalia curbing cost expansion lump sum. The height is dependent on the salary bracket (150 euro up to 750 euro per year), only the portion of the annual aid sum going beyond it is disbursed. However the first cost portion for each considerationable child reduces itself around 60 euro.

To the comparison: the average additional payment in the legal health insurance amounts to at present scarcely 90 euro in the year.
